Police and university officials in Whitewater are urging people to be cautious when accepting drinks from others and to not leave drinks unattended after charges were issued in connection with the so-called date rape drug.
An arrest was recently made that led to a charge of possession of GHB, or Gamma Hydroxybutyrate, according to a news release from the Whitewater Police Department.
According to the release, the drug is most often produced in a liquid form and can be mixed with many substances, including water, because it has no taste.
The drug can lead to death and symptoms include headaches, hallucinations, dizziness, confusion, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness and agitation.
People who experiences any of these symptoms or notice a friend is acting unusual while in a social setting should call for medical assistance immediately and contact their local police department, according to the release.
